Have you ever wanted to learn how the stock market works? I mean, really works? I’m the first to admit as a young married guy, I haven’t had the slightest clue. I never really thought too much about investments that much, but after reading a lot more, I’m beginning to see the true advantage of getting involved in investing earlier rather than later.
I have a very wealthy uncle, and I was having dinner with him last week. At the end of the night, he asked me if I had ever heard of a book by an author named Jason Kelly on investing called The 3% Signal: The Investing Technique That Will Change Your Life
I said that I hadn’t. I asked him if it was that much of a life-changing book. He told me that it was so good, that it convinced him to take all of his very many assets, and do with them what the book said. Now, that got my attention. You don’t get rich by being stupid, and you don’t stay rich that way either. And for someone as bright as my uncle to tell me that whatever he read convinced him to transfer all of his wealth, I was hooked. He proceeded to tell me to read it, and then get back to him, and he would help me get started. I bought the book right there on the spot on my phone. My uncle said that these books are great because the author is not a finance guy. He is first and foremost an author, and so he knows how to communicate complex ideas into simple words that the everyday person will easily understand.
Full disclosure, I have not yet started the above book. The reason is because the author first came to fame after writing his first book, titled The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing: Fifth Edition.
My uncle told me that he first read this book before the 3% investing one, and I wanted to do the same. I want to get the full picture on how this stuff works before I start applying it in real life. I purchased both books on Amazon.com and I purchased the kindle versions, since they are cheaper, and I am able to read these ebooks on my phone, ipad, or desktop.
Coming from a guy who as of yesterday didn’t know a single thing about the stock market, it’s unbelievable how much I have learned in such a short amount of time, just from the book’s first chapter. If you’re like me and wondering how all of this stuff works, I highly recommend these books. I’ve linked to them in this post.
Everything from why stocks are good investments, how the returns are over time, how they are traded, the different types of stock, the different ways you earn money through stocks, why and how a company sells stock, what the heck NASDAQ, DOW Jones, and NYSE are and what they mean, what the term ‘the market’ means, and the different types of brokerage firms. That’s all just from the first half of the first chapter.
I can’t wait to finish the book, and then get on to the book that I’m really excited about, which is the investing one my uncle told me I had to read. I’ll try to update along the way on what my thoughts are, but just thought I’d share with all of you as well! Investing a little bit of money at age 25 versus investing at age 40 literally means the difference in millions of dollars by the time you retire. Start young, and retire wealthy! Let me know if anyone checks out the books. I’d love to know your thoughts on them as well!
