Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard something about Rachel Dolezal: the black woman who was outed as a white woman by her parents. As this viral saga continues to get crazier and crazier, I thought I’d share what most people don’t know about Rachel Dolezal.
Here is a list of her many crazy and/or discredited claims:
She Received a Full-Ride Scholarship to the All-Black Howard University
Rachel Dolezal received a full-ride scholarship to the black Howard University when they ‘took her for a black woman.’ Her father said, “You’ve got a white woman coming in that got a full-ride scholarship to the black Harvard.” Tuition alone at Howard University ranges from $20K – $30K+ per year.
She was the Spokane Washington NAACP Chapter President
She officially resigned from the position today as more outrageous facts are coming out. I’m still trying to find how much her salary was for this position.
She Changed Her Appearance Similar to Blackface
Dolezal was able to darken her appearance with a heavy use of make-up. Her adopted black brother, Ezra Dolezal compared her concealment to blackface:
Back in the early 1900’s, what she did would be considered highly racist. You really should not do that. It’s completely opposite – she’s basically creating more racism.
She Claims to be Bi-Racial, Including Black and Native American
The City of Spokane released her application to a police oversight commission. According to her application to this position which she currently still holds, she marked her ethnicity as white, black, and American Indian. The Black and Native American of course being false. The Office of Police Ombudsman Commission now states that “The community wanted diversity and limited background checks” and that race “was certainly taken into account.”
She Claims She was Born in a Teepee
In an interview with Eastern Washington University’s newspaper, The Easterner, Dolezal claims she was born in a teepee in Montana. This is the same university where Dolezal is currently an adjunct professor of African-American Studies.
She Claims Her Family Hunted for Food with Bows and Arrows
The same article states, “As a child, Dolezal and her family hunted their food with bows and arrows.” She then claimed that she then moved to Colorado and South Africa.
She Claims She was Abused by her Parents in South Africa
According to Dolezal, the object her mother and stepfather used to punish them was called a baboon whip, used to ward baboons away in South Africa. These whips w0uld leave scars behind, they were pretty similar to what was used as whips during slavery.
Her parents have aggressively denied these allegations. And their side of the story is greatly aided by the fact that their family never lived in South Africa.
Dolezal has also claimed to have been physically abused by her ex-husband, stating that their two-year old son “would sometimes get thrown across the room.”
She Claims She was Date-Raped
One of Doležal’s paintings was at a convention center in San Francisco, where her and a trusted mentor went out to dinner together to celebrate the sale. As soon as Doležal looked away, the mentor slipped gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, also called the “date-rape drug,” into her drink. According to Doležal, her mentor took advantage of her that night. She said suing was nearly impossible due to the amount of wealth the man had. “I can never trust anyone to bring me a drink again, you know, because it was a trusted person,” she said.
However, Dolezal never filed any such claims with the local police and no arrests were ever made.
She Claims has Blonde Hair because of Cervical Cancer
From the same Easterner article:
In 2006, Doležal developed cervical cancer. During chemotherapy, she decided to keep her incredibly long, blonde dreadlocks she had had and still puts them on today. She was considered cured in 2008.
She Claims her Black Brother is her Black Son
As it turns out, it is her adopted brother, not her son. That didn’t Dolezal from attempting to sway doubters though, as she stated they could “DNA test me if they want to.”
She Claims one of her Black Friends is her Biological Father
Dolezal repeately falsely identified another black gentleman as her biological father.
She Claims her Fake Black Father was Hunted by Whites Multiple Times
‘My dad’s exodus, the great migration to the North from the Deep South where they left on the midnight train because a white officer harassed and threatened to, was about ready to, beat his dad with a billy club and he whipped around and actually slapped the officer to his knees. They got out of town on the midnight train because as a black family in the deep south if you had any kind of a negative altercation with a white cop where you stood up for yourself it was gonna go badly for you.’
She then claimed that her father went on to become a cop after serving in the Marines, and that three attempts were made on his life by white subordinate soldiers.
She said She would be Nervous About Attending a Tea Party Rally
Implying that white Tea Party members are violently racist, she stated in 2010 that she would be ‘nervous’ to attend a Tea Party rally due to the all-white crowd.
She has Made Repeated Claims that She was the Victim of Anti-Black Hate Crimes
She has been filing police reports about anti-black hate crimes for years. However, Spokane police believe that her most recent claim of hate mail was done by herself.
Police records say the initial package Dolezal reported receiving did not bear a date stamp or bar code, which Dolezal told police when she reported it. Investigators interviewed postal workers, who said it was either very unlikely or impossible that the package could have been processed through the post office, implying that the only alternative was that it had been put there by someone with a key… Asked about the possibility that she had put the package there herself, she said, “That’s such bullsh*t. What mother would terrorize her own children?”
Neumaier said he was suspicious of several incidents Dolezal reported in Coeur d’Alene, including her discovery of a swastika on the door of the Human Rights Education Institute when the organization’s security camera was “mysteriously turned off.” “None of them passed the smell test,” he said.
In total, Dolezal has made nine separate hate crime claims. The Spokane Police have since suspended looking into all of her hate crime allegations.
She Sued Howard University for Discrimination
This is the big bombshell that was just discovered today. After the whole ordeal of receiving a full scholarship to Howard University under the pretense that she was black, she went ahead and later on attempted to sue Howard University for discriminating against her… because she was white.
According to a Court of Appeals opinion, Dolezal’s lawsuit “claimed discrimination based on race, pregnancy, family responsibilities and gender.” She alleged that Smith and other school officials improperly blocked her appointment to a teaching assistant post, rejected her application for a post-graduate instructorship, and denied her scholarship aid while she was a student.
The court opinion also noted that Dolezal claimed that the university’s decision to remove some of her artworks from a February 2001 student exhibition was “motivated by a discriminatory purpose to favor African-American students over” her.
As detailed in the court opinion, Dolezal’s lawsuit contended that Howard was “permeated with discriminatory intimidation, ridicule, and insult.”
She ended up losing the lawsuit, and was forced to pay the university’s legal fees. Rachel’s adopted black brother Ezra claims that Dolezal did in fact face real racism from the black students at Howard University, and that the experience made her very angry. It was then that Rachel started being “hateful to white people.”
She Didn’t Allow a Hispanic Student to Participate in a Classroom Activity because She Looked Too White
And now for the ultimate irony. It has now also been discovered that Rachel Dolezal discriminated against one of her Hispanic students in a classroom because she was ‘not Hispanic enough.’
“Rachel said I didn’t look Hispanic. She doubted that I could share experiences of racial or ethnic discrimination because I didn’t have the appearance of looking Hispanic… Now I wish I had said something, especially now that her race is the one people are questioning,” the student said.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see what bizarre revelations are revealed next.
